HISTORY OF MCAULEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
The McAuley school was intended to replace St. Catherine Primary School, because of the poor physical condition of that school and the inadequate space.
One might wonder why the name McAuley? This is because the school is named in memory of Mother McAuley a Roman Catholic Nun who did outstanding work in the field of education and especially among the poor.
Construction of the school began in the late 60s. First phase was completed in September 1970 in the Canadian type building to accommodate three hundred (300) students ranging from grades one through five. The staff consisted of six teachers including the principal Mr. Ewart Grant.
In 1971 the second phase was completed. An influx of students was experienced and the school progressed rapidly numerically as well as in academic and aesthetics.
